Our Past Successes

• Played a key role in organizing the opposition to the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA.
• Facilitated communication and joint strategizing between movements in Canada and to the South. Supported the Steelworkers Humanity Fund in their Chile-Canada worker exchanges and collective bargaining workshops
• Supported linkages between Canadian and Peruvian groups around the environmental implications of mining.
• Integrated perspectives on globalization and on alternatives being developed in the South into the preparation of the Alternative Federal Budget in Canada
• Played a key role in helping to coordinate the participation of the Canadian delegation at the 1997 Parallel Forum in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This parallel meeting dealt with the Free Trade Area in the Americas.
• Active participant on the hemispheric Organizing Committee for the Santiago People’s Summit of the Americas , Santiago, Chile. Co-organizer of the Social and Economic Alternatives Forum at this Summit. (Canadian delegation to Chile included over 60 participants from diverse sectors in our movement).
• Active in the writing, editing and coordinating of the document and process entitled “Alternatives for the Americas: Building a People’s Hemispheric Agreement
• Organized, coordinated and hosted the secretariat for the “Our Americas Towards a Peoples Hemispheric Agreement” Civil Society Forum held in Toronto, Canada from Nov 1st to 5th, 1999 parrallel to the 5th FTAA Trade Ministerial.
• On Coordinating Committee of the Hemispheric Social Alliance.
• Co-coordinating “Operation QC01” – 2nd People’s Summit of the Americas, April 17 -21 2001 Quebec City, Canada
