As teachers across BC work to meaningfully engage Aboriginal knowledges within their classrooms, what can we learn from how teachers are decolonizing education in other contexts?

The BCTF has partnered with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) to support the Foundation for Development and Education (FUNDE) in Bolivia. In Bolivia, educational reform has focused on decolonizing education, engaging indigenous knowledges, and promoting community-based and participatory approaches. With elections scheduled for October 18, 2020 in Bolivia, what impact could the election have on education reforms?

Join us for a short webinar with Igor Ampuero Morales, founder of FUNDE, who will speak about how educational policy and practice in Bolivia has struggled to overcome the country’s neocolonial legacy.  Igor will be joined by Raul Burbano, Director of Common Frontiers, Carole Gordon, BCTF 2nd vice president, and Domenic Bellissimo,  Associate General Secretary of the OSSTF.

Canada’s solidarity with the people of Bolivia is urgently needed at this time. Join us to learn more and to add your voice to those calling for the international monitoring of the election to support Bolivia’s democracy and to protect the human rights of all Bolivians.
